Experience the vibrant Datta Jayanti celebrations from December 22nd to December 26th at the enchanting Dattataraya Peetha in Chikkamagaluru. However, if you’re planning a Christmas getaway in Karnataka’s picturesque Chikmagalur, you may need to adjust your plans slightly. Tourist access to the region’s popular tourist spots has been temporarily prohibited from December 22nd to 27th due to the upcoming Datta Jayanti festivities. The District Collector of Chikmagalur has issued an advisory encouraging tourists to postpone or cancel their visits during the Datta Jayanti festivities at Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah on the Baba Budan Giri hill ranges.

Datta Jayanti is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Dattatreya, who is considered to be an incarnation of the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The festival is celebrated with great fervor and devotion by devotees across the country. On Datta Jayanti, people take bath early in the morning in holy rivers or streams, and observe fast. A puja of Dattatreya is performed with flowers, incense, lamps, and camphor. Devotees meditate on his image and pray to Dattatreya with a vow to follow in his footsteps. Other sacred texts like the Avadhuta Gita and Jivanmukta Gita, which contain the god’s discourse, are also read by devotees. Hindu priests conducted ‘homas’ and other puja rituals on the premises of Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy
